Mr Gatty

Mr Gatty projected on the wall of his shed

A bespoke projection, sound, light and effects installation in the unreconstructed experiment shed of the innovative dyer Mr Gatty for the British Textile Biennial

Mr Gatty’s Experiment Shed was an installation exploring the layered histories of a former industrial site in Accrington, East Lancashire, the purpose built ‘experiment shed’ of F.A Gatty, 19th century textile industrialist and dye innovator.

The shed remains largely untouched since Mr Gatty's time. In the bicentenary year of his birth this bespoke light and projection piece created an evocative installation in a unique space, re-imagining of the physical ephemera of the industry and the raw materials that drove it.

Featuring projected images, animation and lighting effects cast onto the raw walls of the shed, with recorded readings with sound and other effects, to create and resonant experience for visitors.

... the dilapidated brick building .... reanimated using video projections, atmospheric lighting, glass vials and audio effects.
The experience was surreal and moving, immersing you in a reconstructed version of Mr Gatty’s world"
